CLINICAL SUPERVISION
What is supervision :- "A working alliance between a supervisor and a clinician in which the clinician can offer an account or recording of their work, reflect on it, receive feedback and, where appropriate guidance.
The object of this alliance is to enable the clinician to gain in ethical competence, confidence and creativity so as to enable them to provide the best possible service to their clients" Inskipp and Proctor (1995)
Most clinical professionals are required by the body to which they work, to have regular supervision.
Often there are two
types of supervision required, supervision related directly to their work and
methods, this is usually provided in-house and then external supervision which
is an opportunity for the clinician to discuss openly what is happening in their
practice.
Supervision is an equal relationship whereby it is safe to risk exploration
and change. It provides support and guidance keeping the clinician working within
their boundaries.
